CineMAS 2024 presents a meticulously curated selection of cinematic treasures from across the globe, offering a rich tapestry of narratives, cultures, and perspectives. Each film, carefully chosen for its compelling storytelling and artistic merit, provides a window into the human experience, transcending borders and bridging diverse communities.
From Humaid Al Suwaidi’s poignant exploration of identity in ‘Dalma’ to Jaafar Panahi’s ‘No Bears’ and Amr Gamal’s ‘The Burdened’; the selection offers poignant reflections on societal issues and personal struggles.
In addition to the thought-provoking narratives, CineMAS presents Shaunak Sen’s evocative documentary ‘All That Breathes’, Rami Younes’s poignant ‘Lyd’ each offering unique perspectives on life, love, and humanity.
The festival also embraces emerging talent and innovation with Mohamed Kordofani’s ‘Goodbye Julia’, Wendy Bednarz’s ‘Yellow Bus’, and a vibrant selection of short films and family-friendly films, ensuring there’s something for every cinephile to enjoy.
Through its diverse lineup, CineMAS invites audiences to explore the world through the lens of cinema, fostering understanding, empathy, and appreciation for the myriad stories that connect us all. Curated by Oscar-nominated filmmaker and visual artist, Scandar Copti.
ABOUT THE CURATOR
Scandar Copti is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker and visual artist. His first feature film 'Ajami' won the Camera d'Or Special Mention at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the 82nd Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category. Scandar is the recipient of the prestigious Sutherland Trophy.
Scandar was part of the team that launched the Doha Film Institute, where he headed the DFI's Education department until 2011. He then headed the Film and New Media program at NYU Abu Dhabi from 2014 to 2017. Currently, he is teaching filmmaking at NYUAD, working on the post-production of his upcoming feature film 'Happy Holidays,' and developing his forthcoming documentary 'A Childhood.'
